Sunday 29th June 2014. 11am to 5pm. 15 gardens will be open throughout the village of East Carleton, this year including Lower East Carleton.The gardens are very diverse and vary from cottage, utilitarian, tropical and water gardens. Explore the hidden delights of other peoples gardens. Teas, cakes and sandwiches available at St Mary's Church along with music at 1pm and 2pm from local musicians. Cream teas and ice creams available in other gardens. The entry ticket has a map showing locations of gardens, which are all marked with a numbered sunflower. The reverse side has brief descriptions of all the gardens. Plant stall and other stalls dotted round the gardens. Plenty of car parking. Been in greenhouse today. Rain has stopped play. 

Vegetable patch a bit wet. Trying out to see if blue plastic bottles can be used to keep slugs off young plants. 

Busy day yesterday getting wood for making new signs. Finally treated myself to a new battery powered hand combo drill [ will help with the sign construction ]buying more bedding plants and of course a scone and tea in a garden centre.

The Fair and Horticultural Show 2013

The Fair and Horticultural show was a great success this year. We had a record attendance and made over £500 for the up keep of St Mary's Church.

At the end of the day Mrs Hazel Chapman and her son Clive presented the prizes and pulled a few raffle tickets out of the hat.

A big thank you to all who organised and took part. Without you all it would not happen.

Not long before the Horticultural Show and Fair

The Village Horticultural Show and Fair is almost upon us, just over a week to go. Saturday 17th August. There are various categories for anyone to enter.

Best Victoria sponge cake

Best garden floral arrangement

Best cupcakes

Best homemade jam or marmalade

Best fruit and vegetables

and for the children the best miniature garden.

Please make sure you check out the rules and regulations of the show which are available to print out from this website, as are the entry forms. Entry forms are also available at the church on the day but entries must be exhibited by 11am ready for judging. There is a small fee of 50p per exhibit into the Show. The Show itself opens to the public at 2pm.

Along with the horticultural, cake and jam exhibits, there will be a nearly new stall, cake stall, plant stall, raffle,simple games

AND

of course tea and cakes to enjoy.

What? no phone box

Now you see it!!

This to me is a quintessential village scene, the post box, the phone box and a map showing a village walk. But sadly the phone box is no more.

And now you don't!!

 It's such a shame that we have lost the phone box(a K6). I am presuming that BT just came along and removed it without any consultation with the village. I wonder if anyone knows if it is going to be replaced or not. Maybe we will get one of those modern monstrosities. I just hope we can hang onto the post box. At least that has been cleaned.  

The Peacock

Have you Heard the Peacock ?

 

 

He is shouting in the morning and in the evening. Not a problem but the loud shrill raucous shrieks can be heard for some distance. He often comes into the garden in the morning for a look around. He has a look for insects and we occasionally put some bird food out for him. It's a wonderful sight to see him come down from our roof in full flight. He is a big bird and he likes to roam. My neighbor tell me he visits them as well. Let me know [by going to bottom of the page and clicking on Comment] if you see him around East Carleton.

 

 

What a lovely colour blue he is as well. He does like to show off his lovely tail feathers as well.

 

 

Been away for some time so have not been filling the blog in. Since I last blogged the snow has gone and the sun is making an effort to come out. Everything in the garden is flowering when it shouldn’t and some flowers are very late.. My Fuchsias are just about on track. Just a little behind.

I hope this will not impact on my flower display at The 2013 Horticultural Show and Village Fair in St Marys Church East Carleton on the 17^th August at 2pm.
